Jesus, what's your blood pressure?!

+1. I don't want to be paying for their healthcare.

Is extra salt a strange request or do they hear it often?

It’s no one’s business so stop caring.
FYI I have ridiculously low blood pressure and need extra salt. Not all bodies are the same.

Peanut butter on french fries is weird. Extra salt is almost mandatory.

You should consider the risks associated with excess salt consumption. Remember, zero risk. Zero risk!

I don't think it's weird because a lot of places under-salt their fries. Also a lot of restaurants use the wrong salt for fries -- you need a finer salt for french fries because it sticks to the fries better when they come out of the frier and therefore you can use less. If a restaurant is using a coarser salt it all winds up on the bottom.

Anyway what I usually do is wait until I have tasted the fries and then if they are undersalted, I'll ask for a salt shaker if one isn't already on the table. But I wouldn't be bothered by someone preemptively ordering fries with extra salt because fries need salt.

I feel similarly about the fresh tortilla chips in Mexican restaurants -- they don't need as much salt as french fries but they should taste salted. The corn flavor is too bland on its own and the salt will also complement the salsa and bring out its flavor generally (unless it's already salty).

If you are asking the restaurant to do it, weird. Get a shaker and do it at the table. I love salt and wouldn't ask the chef to make them more salty.

I crave salt too.

We wouldn’t crave it if our body didn’t need it. Listen to your body.

Where are you getting your fries that salt is not available on the table or near the utensils? Are you forcing the kitchen staff to double salt your fries before they come out to you?

It's not a strange request

I always think it tastes better freshly applied versus when they have sat for a bit and aren’t still oily when the salt is applied. But I’ve now just started asking for the packets.
