+1.

More Republican, you mean? There's nothing *conservative* about dismantling government services, throwing hundreds of thousands of people out of their jobs, and returning to the spoils system pf the 1870s.

Not to mention that, in this fantasy, the local economy would crash. Places where the local economy has crashed are usually not nice places to live. But if you feel like it would be a better fit for you, who am I to disagree.

I'd be more worried about things swinging the other way in response. That's what happened last time. People were so outraged by what was happening in red states that they tripled down on what was being banned there.

People in the DMV value things like libraries. If you lower our taxes, we will have less of the things we love. No thank you.

There have been a lot of weird posts about this kind of thing. They seem to think that hundreds of thousands of feds are going to be laid off on January 20th, sell their homes all at once (crashing the housing market) and that conservatives will buy the houses making it a conservative utopia. This goes beyond wishful thinking to dilutions.

+1. If there are 'republicans' in any number, they're mostly the old-school small government, Lincoln Project type. MAGA grifters exist, sure - hello, Youngkin - but not many in the city proper/innermost suburbs.

Presidents come and go. He won’t even be eligible for another term. I recommend you move out to a more conservative suburb

The government reform of the 90s went nowhere.

I wanted to get some thoughts on the future political landscape of Northern Virginia and DC, especially with Trump's possible return to the White House and his promise to "drain the swamp" and reform federal agencies. Areas like Fairfax County, Arlington, and DC lean heavily left, as shown by recent election results. For conservatives, it can be frustrating, especially with policies around schools, rising taxes, and the continued election of far-left representatives.

With Trump's agenda to scale down the federal government, potentially reducing a workforce that often leans liberal, I’m wondering if we might see a shift in the local demographics or even a cultural and political rebalancing here. Personally, if things moved toward the center or became more conservative, it would make a big difference in staying long-term. We’d love to stay if it felt like a better fit.

Has anyone seen this happen before? Any examples where efforts to restructure the government led to a shift in the local political landscape? It’s striking how this self-reinforcing system works: tax dollars fund the government workers who, in turn, vote in ways that keep the status quo. Of course, I understand that many have built their entire careers and lives around the government, with specialized degrees and certifications that may not be as applicable outside of this sector. It makes sense that they’d resist changes that might disrupt their livelihoods.
