I use products from Mixed Chicks. The leave in conditioner makes all the difference. You also need the right kind of hair brushes to style your hair. Tangle Teaser to get conditioners through hair evenly and a Denman brush or Bounce Curl brush if you want to coax curls into your hair.

My whole life I wondered why my hair seemed more like a Caucasian person's hair... it didn't lay flat, held curls easily, thin, wasn't that shiny.

I gave birth to some biracial curly haired kids... taking care of their hair and reading online showed me I actually have wavy hair! Maybe anywhere from 2A-2B for anyone who knows curly spectrum numbers.

I am not Asian but i see plenty of Korean people and some Indians with thick wavy hair.

Yeah, also Middle Easterners (who I guess are "white") have thick, shiny hair with texture. OP sounds clueless.

Try a leave in conditioner or a few drops of oil to smooth it

Most of the Koreans men and women have gotten perms.

OP - Okay I watched some YouTube videos and will try the curly girl method. Bought mousse and scrunched and currently have it in a scrunchy bun on top of my head.

DS doesn't use anything, and he has curly hair.

DD uses some kind of leave in hair conditioner because her hair gets frizzy - she has a lot of thin super wavy hair.

They are wasian.

I'm Asian, and I have slightly wavy hair. The underside of my hair is really thick; the outer layer is thinnish and prone to friz. And I have a lot of hair. I have really weird hair. I also use a bit of the leave in conditioner, but just on the top side that has the thin hair. The underside thick hair doesn't get frizzy.
