I once had parents scream at me to run harder and get out of the center circle more when I was working my 6th game of a tournament on a hot day to help out a desperate assignor.
Think about that next time you criticize a ref for "not trying their hardest".

Sounds like you aren't fit for the job. Put some training in.

Indeed! There are several refs who use the opportunity to share with parents prior to the game there is a ref shortage and verbally providing them the information to get trained. Sets an indirect tone — hey you could do this too!

Yeah, no. This is rare.

OP here - YES! Parents also don’t realize a lot of the refs for tournaments are out there for multiple games with very little time in between to even rest. The tournament directors need to change this! I know it’s about game scheduling but geez, give some refs more than 5 minutes in between!

+1 This is real! Herndon all-star tournament this weekend. Games start every 30 minutes. How much time could there be between games?

Well great job causing ref shortages. My child refs and it’s a rare week where there is enough refs for all the games that need it.

There are more unhinged parents. Way, way, way more than “power-tripping” referees. It’s a side gig/hobby for 95% of the people who do it and not something they need to put up with. Whatever “power-tripping” is done is likely in reaction to an unhinged parent.

But the adult refs who run around on a power trip and don't know how to do their job? They can get fu*ked.

This type of person scares me. I cannot imagine who would want to absorb the abuse that refs get from unhinged parents & fans.

++1
I wish they could get a taste of their own medicine.

Yeah, I think the PP is the type of parent/fan that makes refs quit.

My child reffed this weekend at a local tournament and had the worst experience with mean coaches and parents on the sidelines.
As parents - just remember they can’t see it all and they are trying their best. A lot of them without ARs to help. No need to berate them and say mean things to them all game.
