I'd do a modular home or one of the fancy trailer homes like this:

There’s a house that I drive past a lot and it’s completely gone. I loved that house. It was my dream house. The new owners demoed it. Just saw it gone today, so I’m quite emotional.

This is far fetched but if there isn’t a time constraint look out for one of those “tear downs” in really good shape and see if it can be moved to your property. A house can be moved from $15-100k as Google estimates.

Maybe you can set up a 501c3 and accept a house as charity. If that’s not currently possible you need to lobby for it because that could drastically increase the living conditions for a whole lot of folks.

I hope you get some good ideas from this board.

Anyway that was my immediate thought when I saw my favorite house missing today. What a waste

Me again. I just know they are going to put up a siding McMansion in its place. 🤬

I'm thinking running water and toilet. And electricity. This would be on farmland outside of Charlottesville.

I think you're missing the point.

Where is your hypothetical plot of land?

I stayed at a little 2BR place in a tropical climate that had only solar power/lights, a composting toilet, propane stove, basins that collected rainwater for showers/sinks, and there was a filter for drinking water + we lugged in some water ourselves.

I said RV, but not that, because I am not going to empty a toilet every day or week or whatever. So I guess I'm going to need to hook this house up to plumbing and electrical? That's going to be costly.

What's the least expensive way to put something there that one adult, one child, and two cats can comfortably and safely live in for a couple of years?
