Yes, MIT for example specifically has a spot in their application to share your AMC scores

It saves face when the other mons talk about how bad American education is and how their kid is years ahead here.

Directly, doing well on AMC10/12 qualifies a kid for AIME. Doing well on AIME qualifies a kid for USA(J)MO. Kids who do well enough on that are invited to a free math summer camp program that prepares kids for participating in the IMO (international math olympiad) or EGMO (European Girls Math Olympiad). The top handful of kids in the country make it on these teams.

Otherwise, scores are used to access various summer camps or elite programs. They also can be used for college apps.

My son got his score report the day after each exam. Ask your proctor if you still haven’t received it.

You can score your own test from memory, and you can ask your proctor for your score. MAA turns around nscores in 24hrs.

You can just lie about your score on college applications. No one checks.

It's just some dudes trying to make a buck.

If you want to do better in a math contest, study and practice. Tons of free resources.

It’s just two different sets of questions given on two different dates. Top kids usually take both to increase their chances of a high score. Scoring in the top ~5% on either test will qualify a kid for AIME.

The AMC is given on one day so there is a 10A and 10B to give people an alternate day to take the exam.

OP, I hope your son did well on the AMC 10B yesterday. I think he will need around a 105 on either test to qualify for AIME.

Is this AMC seminar legit? It's today at noon and costs $150, but they waive part or all of the fee if you can't pay. Is this legit?

Thanks everyone in advance for your advice. My son needs to make AIME this year and got like a 91.5 on the AMC 10A.

Why are you linking a google form, rather than providing the context and actual webpage behind the company behind the google form? There isn't much to evaluate here in terms of "legit".

The 10A was Wednesday, I know that we have not received our score yet, when did you get yours?

Why does your son need to make the AIME this year? I understand that it is a great goal but I don’t understand the “need.”

I will say this, a barely make the AIME means that it is incredibly hard to make the next level, the score you need to move on is higher the lower you score on the 10A/B.

I would not pay for a seminar, I know that RSM had a series of free seminars before the 10A. I might pay for something from AoPS but I am not going to click on a link to an unknown course. I would pay if my kid wanted to take it to improve their score but I cannot think of why a kid would need to make the AIME.
