It has 3 HDMI inputs if you need to hook up a cablebox or DVD player outside of streaming everything.

I was thinking of just snagging this because of the price - can't beat it IMO.

OP here- Thanks, I did get this one! She's getting it in a few hours-hope she loves it!

Just do not connect it to the Internet.

Just get a large screen computer and call it a day. TVs are outdated.

Insignia. It works with Amazon and has voice control.

Many "smart TV" sets are sold at a loss, which the manufacturer makes up for by selling your viewing data. If you care about this, never connect the device to the Internet and just use it to view broadcast or cable television and as a monitor for DVD/Blu-Ray/Roku box/etc.

Non-smart TV sets are also available, but tend to be more expensive for this reason.

I have had good luck with Samsung sets over the last few years, but they are not the cheapeast. LG makes great OLED panels, but only in larger sizes. These probably have the best picture quality available on consumer sets and are what I would get if I needed one in those sizes. OLED > LED/QLED/etc. Most newer sets only have HDMI inputs, so you will need analog to HDMI converter boxes (available on Amazon and elsewhere) if you want to connect older analog devices (e.g. VCRs, older DVD players, older video game systems, etc.) to newer sets.

Did you look elsewhere for deals? Costco?

Mom (78) has an old tv, probably 20 yrs old and the screen has dark spots, so it's time for a new one. I hardly watch tv and have just one, a random TCL one from Walmart which honestly works great.

I want to get her a new one for Christmas-tomorrow starts the Walmart+ sale (which I have) but I'm not up on brands or kinds of tv or anything! What might be a decent brand for a 42 or so inch tv, smart tv (her old one isnt) ? TCL? ViZio? I also could size up a bit but not much.

Any recommendations?
