mac and cheese (find a recipe that suits you - roasted cauliflower in it, or green chilies, or smoked cheeses, etc...)

green salad (we like marinated kale and red cabbage for color) with bright cider vinaigrette, apples, nuts, and cheese

sauteed sherry mushrooms with garlic and rosemary

butternut squash souop to start

squash gratin

creamed corn or cornbread

I've done acorn squash stuffed with wild rice and mushrooms (for a vegan guest). I preferered it to the turkey. You could add a spicy crumbled sausage to it for a main with meat.

You do realize that it could be absolutely anything right?

A few of my favorite thanksgiving dishes have been:

Mac and cheese

Cauliflower with capers and bread crumbs

Creamed spinach

Kale salad with roasted squash, cranberries, and feta

Butternut squash tart with a nice cheese and onions

Root vegetable stew with dumplings

We make a cheesecake and vanilla pudding because they are family favorites. And corn.

I stopped doing turkey a while ago. It's easily the weakest link in the Thanksgiving lineup. Lately we have done a sous vide tenderloin, greek lemon potatoes, a spinach gratin, salad, and some of the traditional thanksgiving dishes, including grandma's stuffing. They don't strictly go together, but everyone loves it and it provides the nostalgia hit much more than turkey.

We also have cut down on the number of dishes, which makes life a lot easier.

Mashed potatoes, stuffing/dressing (try a different recipe), roasted root vegetables, different breads, etc. I’m going to vote against the salad - every Thanksgiving I’ve ever been to where there was a green salad it was leftover.

I think I am going to make a beef tenderloin this year along with a small turkey.

Interested in getting out of the depressing cage of traditional Thanksgiving that I have lived in each year.

I am seeking ideas for Thanksgiving foods that are not the same turkey, ham, greens, yams, sweet potato pie that I have always made. I’m the OP of the OT thread abo it Thanksgiving (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1238690.page). Hoping to cheer up my experience and expectation.
