Did parents who went to an Open House come away happy? Disappointed? As you expected?

Too bad you don't care enough to visit

I like to see the teachers in action, even though I know open house day is a bit fake.

But my kid's comfort comes first. If he didn't want me there, I might just peek in the window of the classroom for a minute.

That's really strange.

Open house is stupid in practice particularly at the HS level. You stand in the back and watch class. If it was one perspective parent whose kid wasn’t at the school but considering it, then maybe it would be useful. But otherwise it’s mostly a pointless waste of time that needs to be reimagined.

Don’t go if your kid doesn’t want you to. It will be awkward.

You get to see what happens in class. Sometimes teachers will take a minute to tell you what the kids are learning and a bit about teaching methods. Some classrooms are a bit less well run during these days because kids don’t behave typically when they have an audience. You might be able to have lunch with your kid depending when you are there.

You can learn the same thing in BTSN and in fact probably Get better information.

Honestly if my kid didn’t want me to go, I wouldn’t. Mine have always liked me to go but I’m not this year. It’s not worth it to create waves in your relationship. The only time I might feel different is if my child had special needs and was struggling, I might want to see what’s going on so I can work on strategies.

HS freshman parent here. Just got notice from school that they're having "Open House" on Monday. Both of us have job flexibility and go drop in for a few classes. DC doesn't want us to. What are we missing if we don't attend?
