Older mom here. I ended up with 3 strollers. The workhorse was the MacLaren. I got a jog stroller for my sanity because I needed the exercise. The one for adventure on mass transit was the cheap little umbrella stroller which was my son's favorite - it folded up easily and was lightweight.

Interesting, not my experience. Going on number three and the uppababy vista is still going strong. I got a mountain buggy nano for a travel/trunk stroller with my first and wish I hadn’t cut corners - ended up buying several other strollers to do its job. I like to buy once and buy well, particularly for first time parents who can get years of use out of a high quality stroller.

You can also try out strollers at Three Littles in the Union Market area. I believe they carry Uppababy, Nuna, and Doona, but unfortunately no Bugaboo. I ended up with a Bugaboo Fox though and love it.

Confused by this post- we use ours daily with our 2 yr old and my niblings still used them by age 4... ( but I avoided uppa baby bc too heavy and bulky for me) so I think this very much depends on the stroller and your lifestyle


Different people have different lifestyles - we still lived in DC for our first and had moved to the suburbs when we had our second. Someone in the city who walks everywhere will get a lot of use out of their stroller, BUT highly recommend not getting a big bulky stroller for this, you want something that takes up as little space as possible and doesn't weight much for taking up down stairs, etc. People who live in the suburbs probably won't use their stroller very much. I wore my baby everywhere because I didn't want to lug the stroller out of the car.


True to different lifestyles. I live in the suburbs but we walk daily to park, playground, etc and my kid gets to grandparents for childcare via stroller.

Definitely think about your life style. A baby in daycare 5 days a week in the suburbs needs much less of a stroller than and urban baby with a stay at home mom without a car.

But I agree there's no need for a thousand dollar stroller- our city mini gt2 is easy to fold, fits easily in car, attached bassinet and carseat easily and fits tall kids.... we paid $300

Was just in your shoes OP and was shocked to figure out there is no specialty baby store in the area that sells high end baby gear. There is is such a market for it in the DMV!

We went to Nordstrom and Buy Buy Baby (there are stores in Rockville and Springfield) and had the best experiences at BBB. If you go to Nordstrom on the weekend expect about 15 other couples also there to look at the same strollers and sales associates who are stretched thin. At BBB we had someone help us for 30 mins look at all the strollers / car seats we were interested in.

I’m in NY but had success at bloomingdales and Nordstrom.

I also went over to close friends homes to test their strollers.
