Op- they seem like they’ll work with us but I just have a sinking feeling about the whole thing and I don’t know what to do next

I would assume there is a lot going on with all the transitions the last few years - new head, new Lower School campus. I wouldn’t be surprised if some things are unsettled now and falling through the cracks.

I think this is an important distinction. If the school is communicating but the message is “we are unable to help with this”, then it’s not that they aren’t working with you (even if you *think* they could do more); they are communicating their capabilities but you don’t like the answer. But if they are not communicating clearly or are saying one thing but doing something else, or other variations of that sort of situation, that’s definitely a bad look for the school, and possibly could be pushed against or escalated (depending on who is already involved).

What grade OP and what are the needs they’re not meeting?

No, OP is talking about the McLean School in Potomac MD, not the Potomac School in McLean VA.

And given the unique population of students that McLean School serves, they *should* be more capable of supporting emotional needs as well.

If the school is telling you they don't think it's a good fit, you aren't going to pressure them into changing their minds. Best you can do is work with them to help manage whatever is happening with your child until you are able to find them a new school.

What have they proposed? Are you being asked to leave now, end of year? Are they suggesting interim measures for how to handle?

What grade?
Does it present as anxiety? Nora is a school that is mentioned frequently to support that space.
