6 weeks out of the water BUT it was done the day schools closed for covid bc kid had wanted ears to be pierced for awhile and I knew that was out only chance to be pool-less.

PP - Unlike soccer, it's fine to wear earrings for swim.

One of mine got hers pierced at the pediatrician and the nurse who did it said the same thing.

Mine got hers pierced at the beginning of September and started swim two weeks later. We were supposed to cover the piercing with some sort of waterproof tape, but it didn't work. She's been fine. The biggest problem she's had is losing earrings in the pool. I bought some small huggie hoops for her, and they have been a life saver because I still don't trust those holes to stay open after an hour in pool.

About 3 weeks. One daughter’s team at the time took a week off for Christmas, plus we had a vacation scheduled after, so she had her ears pierced a week before the break and made use of the time she was going to be out of the pool anyway. Another daughter did something similar a few years later. Both were very good about doing the saline rinse after swim. Agree with PP that I would not do a lake or river with new piercings.

+1 my daughter has a lot of piercings. In the early years, we typically did them at the beginning of a break. Last spring, she got one on a whim, practiced the next day.

DD got her ears pierced during the break between summer swim and the start of the club season. She stayed out of the pool for a little over 5 weeks (the recommendation was 8) and made sure to clean her ears well after swimming for the first few weeks back. FWIW she’s has many friends who didn’t take anytime off after and none had any problems.

My kids took two weeks off of swimming and then were very good about showering immediately after swimming for the next month or so. We'd even gently blow dry the ear to make sure they weren't staying wet.

Earrings can stay in for swim.

Same as above but she waited until after LC season. She was 13, so very able to monitor herself for signs of infection. Out of practice for three weeks, tried not to submerge in neighborhood pool...

My daughter pierced her ears during a break from swim after short course season ended. She was back in the pool before the recommended time. I think it was about 4 weeks out of the 8 weeks that were recommended.

I was a swimmer growing up and because I could never figure out a good time for my ears to get pierced and then heal, I didn’t pierce them until I was 26.

But that was the olden days so maybe it’s easier now?

Off topic from most other posts in this thread but I need swim parent input; if your kid got ears pierced as a swimmer, how long did you keep them out of water with a fresh piercing? Do coaches make kids take earrings out for swim? Ty.
