I use a magnesium cream on my feet because having a wind down ritual before bed helps me sleep but you should know that studies show that transdermal absorption of magnesium isn’t effective. I found eliminating alcohol to be really helpful for my sleep. It also completely eliminated my hot flashes and anxiety during the night.

I found magnesium citrate the best for me. Nature made recommended dose.

I have tried Mag Glycinate and a Gummy from Whole Foods called calm that uses mag.
While both relaxed me in the evening and helped my sleep, after a month or so of use I noticed I felt fatigued during the day. And I struggled to exercise in the morning - my bod fought doing anything rigorous.
Apparently Glycine can have this effect.
I really wanted Mag to work for me, as it seems to work for most people, and I’ve had docs recommend it too.
I am on HRT patch btw.

I think they all do. But don't use magnesium oxide for sleep, that's the one that will just make you poop.

I have been using magnesium threonate for a few months now and found my best dosage only a month ago. Instead of the recommended 3 capsules an hour before bed, I take 2 (about 290mg total). And those capsules are too freaking large, so I open them and pour them into 4-6 ounces of flavored water and ingest it that way.

I got magnesium glycinate gummies at Target and didn't find that there was any change in my sleep after two months.

2 mg of THC had more impact. Though I still wake up at 3 AM sometimes, I fall asleep faster and get more deep sleep (per my apple watch, so take that for what it is).

Glycinate proably the best, citrate also good. You want to avoid magnesium oxide due to low bioavailabilty is my understanding. Has been a game changer in our home.

I am currently in peri and The lack of sleep is really hard! I would like to try magnesium supplements and would love to know which type (glycinate, citrate, etc.) dosage and brand people have had success with. Thanks!
