Same. Mine cheated on a chemistry test and was suspended. He got a 0 and his grade was already low. He had to retake the class during the summer and he had to pay for it. Plus he couldn’t get a summer job because the class was from 8-12pm everyday with a few hours of homework. I was happy about all of the above.

I teach in public school and I have 7th graders who care barely compose a grammatically correct sentence. Our writing rubric mentions nothing about mechanics of writing. It’s pitiful. I am now an intervention teacher and I teach students who read many grade levels below. I’m shocked that kids in MS think that what makes a complete sentence is s capital letter and a period.

People just mention that “everyone” uses Chat GPT for the online test they just had, etc. People have told her the prof in that class knows but does not know how to fix it. It does not sound like kids are getting expelled. They just get perfect GPAs and get into McIntire and Batton.

What kind of test is this...and isn't an easy way to fix it to make everyone take the test in-person and not online?

Financial Accounting. Over 700 kids and it is an online class with online tests.

Really? At UVA? Not at all my DCs experience there.

Since when did we believe 18 year old when they said "everyone" is doing something? Come on. Yes, people cheat. But the idea that every single person is doing it is far fetched.

The fact that she doesn't think it's a big deal is more about her than about the school she just got to two months ago.

If your not cheating, your not trying.

No. They are not. If a kid has a legitimate diagnosis from a qualified professional, that is not cheating. Sounds like maybe you are trying to justify your kid’s cheating through someone else’s disability.

Cheating starts at an early age and continues. Cheating/scamming are promoted and respected for some cultures and groups. This will eventually lead for companies to give tests during interviews. And ultimately devalues the degree from that institution.

Cheating was big back in the day there too…and I know someone caught and kicked out for it.

But- now all these unprepared grade inflated kids are there and we gave AI and tools, etc I bet it’s even more pervasive.
