It could maybe be done if you’re willing to stay in a non-touristy area, but might be hard around Christmastime. Look into the Pod hotel at 51st and 2nd, and maybe hotels further up the UES or UWS. You’d probably have to compromise on one room though, I don’t know if you’ll be able to find 2 rooms for a total of $500/night.

FWIW, I live in NYC and would be completely fine with sending teens (who I would trust to use the metro/subway) on the PATH. It’s literally just a train with the same type of access/stations that happens to go across the river, and there’s a stop right in Midtown where they can connect to the subway. I’d think of it as taking the orange line from Arlington into DC and then connecting to the red line at Metro Center. It’s basically as easy as that.

The PATH option is not bad, and Hoboken and Jersey City are nice.

I don't really want them traveling out of the way. It was just an idea for a trip but that'll be a no. Thank you all!

That's why I asked, what I am finding now is what you mention. Not open to NJ or not Manhattan as I want teens (all older) to have easy access to everything and be autonomous.

The PATH train from Jersey City or Hoboken gives easy access. It functions like an extension of the subway system. Look into it before you rule it out.

Bring your own blow up mattresses for the floor and just pile everyone in one room.

Yes, but surely PATH is going to be best transit option, not ferry.

Under 2k at most for 4/5 nights but not if it's just one big hotel room. Would want a rental type place, 2 rooms.
