My kid is a history buff so I wish I had booked the Mt Vernon restaurant before it was sold out. Thanks for the suggestions already and looking for interesting options. It's hard to have no local family and one of our kids is on study abroad, so feels especially lonely.

Love Chez Francois. Also try an overnight at the Salamander.

We went to the mansion on O street one year. Food was great and it was fun to walk around after and marvel.

We’re in the same boat and are looking for something in Alexandria, if anyone has suggestions!

We went one year to Mt Vernon and would not go back. Too many people hoarding around nearly empty buffet tables.

On the other hand, L’Auberge Chez Francois is perfect. La Ferme is good too.

Old Ebbitt Grill is festive and has consistently good food and service.

Martin's Tavern is very historic. You could go walk by the canal in Georgetown beforehand. See if they have Thksgvg menu but they have old time favorites including turkey

Stay home and make 1 turkey breast or turkey cutlets per person. Simple cozy dinner.
