I think this is pretty standard protocol. I just did a recorded statement for the other driver's insurance two days ago and today got my deductible refund--even before my car repairs have been completed. This was a situation where it was clearly not my fault, so I didn't have an issue providing the statement to them.

I thought it was standard protocol for each party involved to be questioned by the other party’s insurance company.

At least that is what I have always done.
I have been in two minor collisions and the other person’s insurance company has always called me and asked me for a statement (though I cannot remember if they recorded me or not.)

So I am glad that I learned this new bit of info today.

Who was at fault? Did you get rear ended? If so, I wouldn’t hesitate to talk to the other insurance. If it is not clear who was at fault then yeah don’t talk to them

Call your insurance company asap - direct any calls to them. FWIW - They will probably have you make a recorded statement. Mine did after a recent crash. That's not unusual, but they will decide what and when to provide to the other insurance company.

Never talk with the other insurance company. Always work only with your insurance.

They're trying to establish liability. Go through your insurance company. I'd record any interactions with the other insurance company (it's built into the new IOS) to make sure that you have a record of declining to speak without giving any information regarding the accident.

That is fishy behavior. I’d call my agent and report this, and document. Maybe they are trying to settle with you and go outside the loop.

+1 for your Dad. You should work through your insurance …no matter whose fault it was.

I was recently involved in a minor car collision with another motorist.

After the accident we both dutifully exchanged car insurance info.

The other party’s car insurance is calling me, asking for a recorded statement from me as well as any photos I may have taken shortly afterward.

My Father is discouraging me from speaking with the other motorist’s insurance company - he is telling me that I am in no way obligated to speak to anyone from there.

He told me that if they want/need any info > then they are to call my own insurance company as that is what the insurance companies are supposed to do.
He believes if I speak to the other motorist’s insurance personally then I will jeopardize my case.

Is this true?
They have already called me 3x.

TIA for your advice on this.
