This.

Anything other than a Wrangler is just a pretender.

I also wanted a 3rd row and I don't believe the RRsport offered a 3rd row.

The size of the Discovery appealed to me, it is roomy inside, but not an enormous car, good towing capacity and I like an armrest.

Regarding reliability, I have not found that to be an issue. This is my second Land Rover, I drove an LR3 for 8 yrs and have had the discovery for almost 5 yrs and have not had issues, neither has had to have a lot of repairs.
Oil changes, tires, some normal wear and tear.

With all due respect, doesn't the Discovery have the asymmetrical, squished looking back? Are they both squished?

I really dislike the RR Sport. The Discovery is great though. I really enjoy driving that. A Land Rover is my dream when I have a ton of extra money that I don't mind spending on potential expensive repairs. For right now, I'm sticking to Acura and Lexus.

For off roading, go with a Wrangler Rubicon or maybe a Toyota 4 runner.

I still can’t figure out why anyone will pay top $$ for automotive junk.

Some of the Jeep Cherokee models do have adjustable air suspension and rear lockers like the Land Rovers, though that wasn't the question asked.

the comparable jeep is a grand wagoneer and no one is off roading those either

The Grand Wagoneer is larger than the RR Sport or Discovery, which are more akin to a Cherokee or Cherokee L.

The saying is…if you want to drive one, buy two. 😀

Lookswise, they don't compare to vintage Land Rovers like the P38, RR Classic, Discovery 1-2, Defender. I would have liked to have seen modern performance and safety features in classic LR body styles.

Which do you prefer and why? Are the most significant differences the number of rows, the price, off-road capabilities, and the engines? Apparently the RR Sport is available in diesel, while the Discovery diesel was discontinued.
