You can as pp suggested say something along the lines of " are you going to bed? Goodnight, I love you"


I've also been able to work the I know it's embarrassing and lame , but I'll only have you at home for X amount of years I just want to hug you as much as I came. I would et an eyeroll but sometimes a hug is allowed.

Eh, it depends.

If DD is on the younger side and going through puberty, this seems totally fine for her to be acting suddenly different. My DD did the same thing when she was ~12.

If DD is on the older side, it's a little strange, especially if she usually says good night and is affectionate towards you. Is she exhibiting signs of depression, anxiety, or an eating disorder? You say it's just the two of you- does DD feel like she can talk to you about things?

I'd monitor.

I had one that did this, and I definitely felt sad. On the other end of the spectrum I have a college graduate that still wants a lullabye when visiting home (yes this is a fully functioning, self supporting adult). I think you just have to accept that some teens need to withdraw earlier and harder from some of the sweet moments that they now see as marks of being “childish.”

Mine only come in to tell the dogs goodnight. Haha.

Mine still say goodnight.

Mine stay up later than I so I'm the one saying goodnight and sending myself to bed and telling them not to stay up too late.

Mine don't.

Even if they were doing something else, they always come find us just to say goodnight.

I agree with you OP, its a basic and respectful form of communication.

It's not about "hugs and kisses", its just communication.

So, even if its a "common" as others have indicated, i wouldn't say its normal or acceptable
