GIVE THEM THE CANDY. Instead of asking them what they want or handing them the bucket to take some. It's not hard, OP. You were part of the problem.

I’m curious why you handed out full sizes bars. It seems expensive to do that. Are you very wealthy? How much do you spend each year on candy to hand out?

They get so much candy, no need for full sized bars. Just like give treat sized bags of chips not a full big bag of chips.

yes we had the same thing but honestly your job on halloween is not to judge but just to deal and give kids candy. end of story.

You never hold a basket, you just hand them one or ask which one they'd like and give it to them.

I agree kids are generally ruder than they used to be. Adults too. It’s also hard because we have much more variety of rules. Even nice kids don’t know what to do because at this house you take one, at the next the lady gives you two, then at the next a basket sits out with directions to take one large or two small.

Are you seriously complaining about this? Do understand that every door they knock on, the owner receives them differently and may have different expectations. It was right for the child (8!) to ask rather than assume. Maybe the other houses told the 10 year old to take what he likes out the bowl so he did that at your house. the norms of Halloween (a dying holiday) is not obvious.

Most of the kids I saw were shy but polite, and did not contravene candy rules. Heck, I was shocked that kids took exactly one or two (depending on sign) pieces of candy from the bowls left out without supervision!

Don’t give out full size candy bars, there’s no reason to. I do agree that children are entitlement monsters these days.

I was in disbelief how many kids came to my door tonight and had the audacity to ask “how many can I take?” when I’m holding a basket of FULL size candy bars!!! One kid in particular took one of each full size (4 total full size candy bars)— while his mother stood there and said nothing. This was AFTER I said just one. This kid is 8.
My neighbor told me kids shoved their hands into her basket rather than waiting to be given candy by her. When she told one boy to wait until she gives it to him he said “no I want to pick out the ones I want.” This kid is 10.
What the freaking F is wrong with these kids and why aren’t they being taught common sense etiquette, manners, how to be polite?
I was honestly so disgusted.
