You shouldn't buy your fruit ripe. You should buy it about to ripen so that you can get it home without incident and then let it ripen. Especially pears which get very soft when properly ripe.


Wrong. Pears, peaches and nectarines don't ripen properly in paper bags. I can't tell you how many times I've tried it and still got a hard core (which indicates too low of a temperature whike being shipped from FLA). I don't waste my money. Stores sell hard fruit ONLY because it ships better green.

They’re not as good, but I’ve gotten decent ones from Harris Teeter. They do take forever to ripen though.

I frequently have to put fruit in brown paper bags in a cabinet to get them to ripen. Not sure if this is an old wives tale, but it has worked from me.

I bought wonderful pears at Sams Club. They did have to ripen abit at home. Their fruit is amazing!

They were perfect the last couple of times, like I said. I always have really good luck at my local Costco with fruit.
