A big benefit with AAA is the coverage goes with the driver, not the car. In other words, if I'm driivng my friend's car, I can call for assistance. I used to have coverage through my insurer but that was tied to each car.

I mean this is AAA business. For everyone else it’s a perk. Maybe AAA is resting on its laurels…

Get a portable battery jumper from Costco. They cost like $50 and will get you going again on alternator power. Also, you can’t jump a car from an EV and probably not a hybrid either.

I have had to use my State Farm roadside assistance on at least 4 occasions for dead battery, flat tires, and a dead alternator (requiring a tow). Had really good experiences each time. The App works well, and tow or service companies have come pretty quickly.

I used state farm in nova. They arrived in less than 60 minutes

OP here thanks mine do also. But I am wondering since the cards and State Farm must contract, are they better or faster than AAA? Or are they just competing with AAA calls in a limited pool of towers?

Some credit cards have roadside assistance as a benefit. Check your fine print.

They all suck, but AAA has the most drivers and contracts with garages. I will never use another service after being told by BMW that I was too far from a dealership to qualify for roadside assistance when my car died on a roadtrip

I forgot to say why lucky. Better in a Wells Fargo lot than a street in Foxhall area. And WF let me use the restroom.

I had a lucky day. On my way into DC to pick up new glasses frames after breaking them falling downstairs Friday, I saw a Wells Fargo and stopped to deposit a small check I had been carrying around for a while. Then car wouldn't start. All the indicator lights flashed and nothing. Tried again, same. Then nothing at all.

I called AAA but the voice response system could not hear "Arlington" right. So I used the app.
Two hours and 3 more phone calls to ask for expediting (age, not feeling well (true still in pain from fall)) that was promised and never happened, a battery truck showed up.

CAVEAT: I did not ask for a battery truck. Expected a tow truck. App sent battery truck. Phone calls revealed would have to start over for a tow. It is better to talk to a live person for the request, imo.

The battery person was excellent. Tested stuff, sold me an overpriced battery, and I was on my way in 20 minutes.

But TWO hours?!?

Anybody ever used State Farm Roadside Assist? Is it good? Better than AAA? Worse?
