OK, but MCPS can't do anything with the drivers license number itself, so why are they asking for it? They don't have access to DMV systems to verify the information.

Government often does things because the checklist tells them to. Somebody consulted best-practices guide with a checklist that has an entry for validating ID. Therefore, they require ID.

Yeah, let's just let everyone into the school building. Nothing could go wrong with that. I guess school safety is not your priority.

Because the process of checking in big groups of parents is very cumbersome and time consuming schools are coming up with work arounds where parents are basically pre-checked so the school just needs to double check you are on the approved list instead of having to look you up in synergy. I agree that giving away my driver's license number to a school database might give me a pause since it's not clear if that data is full secured.

The only way to stop address cheaters is following the kids home and surprise home visits.

Tell them to go suck an egg. Say you lost it.

Would you rather creeps gain access to the school??

If you don’t like it, you can pay for private where they will know you.

Everyone has to show their drivers license to enter a MCPS school. This isn’t even new. It’s been required since at least 2017.

It's part of the visitor management system. They scan IDs to ensure you're not a creep on a registry or something.

Did you have to scan it to enter the school? This is to make sure you’re not in the sexual offender lists

My kid has been at the school since K. This is nuts, right? This is not for volunteering. This is for a parent coffee.

Possibly for school volunteering purposes?

Our public schools require a form and a copy of your driver's license to do any field trip, classroom volunteering, or more than one time assistance with ECs.
