There aren’t lessons or anything, but water parks at Massanutten and the Williamsburg Great Wolf Lodge have the Flow Rider, which feels like surfing. It’s hard for beginners to stay on the board, but some pick it up pretty quickly.

If your kid has to conquer the fear of falling then surfing is not going to be something they would enjoy. And a soft top board is plenty easy to balance on.
Buy your kid a boogie board and let them have fun for free.

Op here. We are almost 4 hours one way drive to ocean. My kid may need some time to learn to balance on board and conquer the fear of falling before doing it in the ocean.

Are there any learning to surf classes for kids at indoor or semi indoor place? Like on manmade surf like those at amusement park?
