Losing weight is, overwhelmingly, about calories in vs. calories out.
But no, people who are overweight do not get fat in their own unique way. They all get fat by taking in more calories than they burn.
For both, the mental part is a bit more complex. But virtually everyone gets fat the same way, and everyone loses weight the same way.
