this is exactly what i did!

but i was having a bad bout of cystic acne on my jawline.

it was a bit of a process

first appointment i got spironolactone. and apparently i had some bad dandruff that i was just thinking was dry scalp. got shampoo and a cream and it cleared up immediately.

then second appointment she upped my dosage once it was known i wasnt having bad side effects

third appointment (about 5 ish months from first), then i got the magic tretinoin which is $10 for a tube with my health insurance. BEST SKIN EVER!

honestly. go to the derm. not sephora.

Most people can't afford a screening until they notice an issue.

+1 for a skin check. you can bring up other concerns, maybe even mention the concern that caused you make the appt originally even if its resolved, but more than likely you'll need to make another appt to discuss other issues.

I have moles, so always a skin check, often something gets removed. Last time I had a mole removed, I also asked if I could do anything for my face cosmetically. She prescribed metronidazole.

If you are simply planning to ask cosmetic questions I would recommend letting them know that beforehand as they can't bill a visit to discuss Botox to your insurance. Typically they will charge a consultation fee (at least the good ones do) that can then be applied towards treatment if you do something.

Top of list especially with fair skin and freckles.
Can go back for cosmetic after discussing it during exam. No makeup.

OP here - I wasn't planning on getting everything, just starting the process.

I didn't know skin cancer check is what the derm is only for, just one of the many things they offer. Thanks pps, I'll make sure that is top of the list!

Skin cancer screening

I finally snagged an appt with a derm I've been waiting for (long referral process), but my previous concern has mostly been resolved. I figured I'd still keep the appointment as it had such a long waiting list, but I'm not really sure what else I should bring up.

I'm 35, minimal wrinkles but interested in botox, still some acne concerns (was my major concern which prompted the referral previously). I'm quite fair and do have a good amount of freckles that I could have looked at.

What do you use your derm for?
