That is reaaaally far from Rockville. Not sure why you’d do that to a kid when an other good resource is close by.

Call MCPS and ask to speak to the DHOH coordinator, they will tell you the process to get the child enrolled in the right program. But the child should have a choice of rock creek valley or support at their home school.
We are not in Rockville and did not choose to send our deaf child to rock creek valley (it is a 35 min drive for us which would be an hour long bus ride) we did tour and it seems like a good program.

Could they look at River? It is very highly resourced, and I know they prioritize kids who are deaf for financial aid.

Does your friend's child have an IEP for DHOH already?

Subject: Deaf/cochlear implant child - how to get into Rock Creek Valley?
Hi all! My friend has just moved to Rockville (from abroad) with a 4-year-old with a cochlear implant placed 1 year ago after sudden deafness following an illness. He is not thought to have other health/development issues. We are trying to figure out how he can get into Rock Creek Valley, which is apparently well resourced for this. They have assigned him to a different school who has hardly any deaf kids and said "let's work on his development first."
Any leads on how children get assigned to these higher resourced schools?
