I don't think it's common, but it's is an option if there is space. Priority is given to freshmen and sophomores for at least this year and last year. If a student lives on campus for both freshman and sophomores years, they will be given priority as juniors to live in the on campus apartments that are run by a private company. They are cheaper than the surrounding off campus apartments and include utilities and UMD wifi.
