Please stop posting here then. This is the DC private school forum and posters are looking for information and input with DC private schools. Are areas are different so your input would not apply here just like NYC privates are starkly different and other places as well.

My kid got in unhooked to a few T10s, T15s. I actually not sure he would have if he went to our local large public HS. There are very few T10/15s from our public which has about 400 more kids per class than the private. There are also legacy at the public since it draws from wealthy zip codes.

It is harder to get an uw 4.0, that's for sure, but if you do you stand out a lot more than you would with the uw 4.0 at a public where it is more common (1/2 the class valedictorians).

No, but what is the point of the post? Is everyone supposed to uproot their family and move because PP has a different experience wherever in the world PP is?

Depends on what you consider Top. If your kid is only looking at small engineering schools, totally different list. Only schools with strong Arabic, different again. Or music conservancies? Or strong performing arts? Or recruitable in the sport you play? Or strong disability services? Or drivable from home?

These lists have no meaning when you are talking about a real kid who knows what they want or don't want.

Which Ivy does NOT consider legacy status?!?

Legacy and donorship still matters. It’s not something I’d rely on (unless there’s a building with my family name on it), but it absolutely is part of the puzzle. If you go to a private where everyone looks the same and applies to the same cluster of schools, kids with the legacies and money and connections will fair better time and time again than those without those resources and connections. Send your kid to private for the community, academic preparedness, overall experience, etc—not to guarantee placement at an Ivy (or similar).

When did anyone say they sent their kids to private schools to get into a top 25? We sent our kids to private from age 2.5 preschool to 18 we wanted them to be in a private school community with nice facilities and small classes and be in a community that they would cherish forever. For both kids this has been the case.

For T11-T25, particularly T20-T25, no legacy is needed
