Old Ebbitt is a classic as is Clyde’s.
Would second the notion of Reveler’s Hour
Pearl Dive
Le Dip

+1 on Lapis
Also in AM is Reveler's Hour, parking is a PITA, but the food is really good.

This would be towards the top of your budget, but I love Convivial for a gathering like this - the atmosphere is great and I think it's a rare place where the VALUE you get for the price is really high. The food is so, so good and well-prepared.

Unconventional Diner is another option - meals there go faster, but the food is great and interesting.

Technically not in DC but I love Q by Peter Chang just outside of DC and close to metro in Bethesda, MD- upscale Szechuan Chinese restaurant with delicious food and IMO some showstopper presentation items (Peking duck, scallion bubble pancake, etc.)

Lapis has a nice atmosphere with great Afghani food in Adam’s Morgan (street parking can be a bit of a pain though)

I love the unlimited brunch at Ambar on Barracks Row ($36 pp) which has Balkan cuisine.

For that price point you could also look at places that emphasize small plates or tapas like Jaleo. That way everyone tries a little bit of everything.

Reasonable cost is very subjective, but here are a few suggestions:

Laos in Town in Noma

Amparo Fondita in Dupont for upscale Mexican

Spices in Cleveland Park for sushi

I have 5 college friends visiting in a few weekends and want to take them to a couple of good DC restaurants. A couple of them are a bit more cost conscious than the rest so I don't want to go too high end. We will be a group of 6 50ish women. Any suggestions?
