The list of schools that will have finding moved to cover Woodward is stunning.

Dr. Taylor, let's see some of that transparency and accountability you were talking about in action.

This mistake would have happened before Dr Taylor took over and he openly refers to it in the linked document so…..seems transparent. Plus the person in charge of budget before already left MCPS so not much to do there. What to watch is how he addresses this shortfall.

There's not only one person in the budget department of MCPS--let multiple heads roll. Millions of dollars of funding gifted back to the federal government due to MCPS incompetence is the reason our kids are in elementary school classes with 28 kids while MCPS claims there's no money to hire teachers.

This is from the internet, so take it for what it is....

For every dollar MoCo sends to the state in taxes, it is estimated that only about 20-25 cents returns to the county in the form of state aid and funding for programs like education, infrastructure, and public services. The remaining funds are redistributed to other counties across Maryland, which may have greater needs but lower local tax bases.

Montgomery County, which has a higher per capita income and wealthier taxpayers, plays a key role in funding state programs but receives proportionally less funding back, especially compared to counties with lower income levels and higher dependence on state aid. For example, in fiscal year 2023, while Montgomery County received over $863.7 million in state aid for public schools, this amount is only a fraction of what the county contributes through income, property, and other taxes. Similar to Howard County.

Of course not, why would they do so and rock the boat.

They know how this county votes in elections, every single time, in state and otherwise, so shortchanging it (in order to fund the rest of the state) has zero consequences at state level. Locally of course, we feel those consequences.

The letter doesn't spell out how or which department resulted in the error. The details here matter. And we also need to understand how the system will prevent such errors going forward.
