Spend time on the beach with his various trucks and sand toys. Dip toes in the water which is still kind of warm. Restaurants aren’t crowded and most are still open. Secrets is nice that time of year with kids. Sit outside and watch the sun set. The last time we were there we saw a bunch of shooting stars. Go to the arcade and play skee-ball for a quarter. Get some cotton candy and walk the boardwalk down to the play ground area.

Back to the room for a bath in the giant tub which was like a pool to him at that age and then out like a light after running all day.

This is such a great idea! copying it for later

My daughter just took her 3 and 5 yo to Hershey PA - stayed in the lodge and the kids loved it.

When our kids were young, our best weekend trips were to Lancaster, Philly, and Pittsburgh, like pp have mentioned. All have so much fun stuff for kids.

Or Philadelphia...the please touch museum, zoo, and Franklin institute are all good.

I was going to suggest Pittsburgh too. Love the National Aviary. The children's museum is nice also.

Depending on where you've already been in Virginia, Newport News/ Hampton has a lot for kids. Virginia Living Museum, Bluebird Gap Farm, Buckroe Beach, Virginia Air & Space Museum, Mariner's Museum.

The Mariner's Museum is only $1 and has a kids room and a playground and a nice trail by the lake and James River. Someone mentioned birds above. There are lots of birds usually on the Lion's Bridge side and you can sometimes see heron on the river.

My boys at those ages could chase pigeons in city squares for hours and hours. Philadelphia was my favorite destination. Richmond too.

We just stayed at a cabin in Capon Bridge WV. Loved it! Had a huge yard and we had fun fishing, making a fire, sitting on the dock, etc. just being outside all day every day was a great change
