My kid also recently go orthotics for flat feet. I was told it won’t fix flat feet, he wasn’t having any pain or issues for his flat feet, and after several hundred out of pocket since insurance didn’t cover, I can’t help but think I was taken for a ride wondering what the point is.
I'm in my 50s with flat feet. I did not regularly wear orthotics until well into my 40s, and now have premature arthritis probably partly due to that. Flat feet throw off the whole alignment of your lower body, which causes extra wear on joints. Orthotics support the arch and help keep everything aligned. I am a big fan of orthotics, and wish I/my parents had gotten on board earlier.
All that to say - IMO you have done a great thing for your kid! Although I can understand how you feel, and also am surprised you got orthotics if he wasn't having pain.
