A city can be beautiful and gritty at the same time. Like Marseille. Or Pittsburgh. It is gritty because there is genuine deindustrialized poverty, low life expectancy, drug use etc. it is beautiful because there is some beautiful architecture, nature, and a vibrant and fun city spirit.
Pittsburgh is MUCH better than Marseille and Glasgow.
