Harpers Ferry = diaperville.
So trashy and gross. Literally diapers on every trail.

Pittsburgh, stop along the way there and hike in Ohiopyle State Park. Once there, good kids museum, science museum, zoo, but don't miss the Aviary, so fun.

If you want something cheap and unconventional, try Cumberland, MD. There's tons of Appalachian mountain hiking trails nearby, Deep Creek Lake is stunning in the fall, Canal Place Historical Park is a cute mini outdoor museum, and Queen City Creamery is a surprisingly good custard shop. It's only like a 2 and a half hour drive if you don't hit traffic, so it could even be an ambitious day trip.

Charlottesville (hiking, foodie scene)

Richmond (kids’ museum, artsy, foodie scene, plus some walks along the river)

Staunton VA, but I’m less familiar with it. It will be near hikes and has a cute, walkable downtown.

We went to Harper's ferry in September and its tourist central. I was always told it was nice but I do not recommend esp with a kid as the hiking is tough, and all there is else to do is go to corny shops with the masses and eat overpriced bad food.

I’ve been here before. Ropes courses, horseback riding, and hiking. Too cold for rafting in November though.

OP said her child is too young for those things.

We did Williamsburg last year in Dec. combined its with Jamestown. I recommend.
Richmond has a nice kids museum I believe you could stop at on the way back.

Looking to do a last minute long weekend trip with 2 adults and a six year old girl the first weekend in November. What’s there to see? We routinely go to NYC and Philly to see family so are thinking about west or south of us. What sort of area should we target?

Like-good food
artsy
nature (considering hiking weekend if could pair with a resort like vibe/indoor pool
Kid adventures that are suitable for a 1st grader (horseback riding and many zip lines type stuff she is still to short/young for)

Are there amazing must see kids museums or adventure parks near hiking with mountains?
