Actually, the NVSL handbook says timers “should” wear while shirts and navy bottoms, not that they must. I’ve never seen a timer turned away for not wearing that combo, including myself the day I couldn’t find my only white shirt so I wore gray. Nobody cared.

Nope. I time regularly in MCSL and don't even own any navy shorts.

What a weird thing to be so upset about. With spectating and deck space one in the same, summer swim meets are chaotic and I appreciate that it’s easy to quickly identify who’s a volunteer… esp with 18 timers and stroke and turn all standing poolside. You know who’s supposed to be there and who’s not.

Yet another demonstration of how NVSL takes itself way too seriously for what it is, summer rec league swim.

Maybe. they do it to declare timers to be meet officials-- and because they are now officials they can't cheer or wear team gear. The intent is to make it more chill, not more serious. But maybe assuming people without a uniform would not be impartial is taking the whole thing too seriously.

That’s crazy. Making timers wear uniforms and declaring them to be “officials” does not make anything more chill. I see timers cheering for kids all the time at club meets, let alone at summer swim, who cares?! JFC.

Wait - no it doesn’t! Lol. Clearly I have not had my coffee yet. MCSL officials have a uniform, but not our timers.

Yeah what? I've been with MCSL for years and never heard of this and never seen timers on any other teams wearing uniforms.

I just was a timer at another meet this month. You can wear whatever you like, but you may get wet from dives, etc. I always wear waterproof sandals or flip flops. It is also very humid. I was given a construction vest over my clothes. I recommend shorts/pants with pockets to keep your cell phone (cannot use it at all on pool deck), heat schedule, etc. Also recommend using the bathroom right before because you might be timing without breaks for 4 hours.
