You are a bit too late for this year tryouts: they already passed for the boy clubs. If your DS is 13 or younger, you can still try to make it on the roster of a girl club. The tryouts are at the end of this week.

Boys are allowed to play on girls regional teams up to the age of 13 - that could be an option, but they still have to find a boys club after they turn 14.

Many girls (like my DD) don't like physical contact and they refuse to play basketball, soccer, football (even the flag versions). Volleyball is one of the sports where physical contact happens by chance: nobody comes to get the ball from you. I think this is the reason why volleyball is extremely popular with girls. Boys are more physical and have many other options. I am not sure about having WAY TOO MANY options - tell that to the girls who don't make a team after the tryouts.

Got it. I do believe that some parents may drive pretty far to join a club if they see a benefit. High performers may benefit from driving to Metro, Paramount, or even MD JRs practices. However, I doubt this is the case for an 11 yo. I thought that Jessup was not quite close enough to northern VA because the OP mentioned "reasonable driving distance."

It is hard to maintain a comprehensive list because clubs come and go, and some have teams only for certain age levels. I would argue that you don't need a comprehensive list because one parent's comprehensive list may not be feasible to another parent. The location may be one of the most important factors. If you live in Gaithersburg, knowing that there is a team in Franconia/Springfield may not be useful information. You can look up the rankings to figure out what clubs were active last year (https://www.advancedeventsystems.com/rankings/Male/U14/aes). You may have to change the age group and the season once you click that link.
