Are you new here? Traffic is still much better than it was pre-covid. Yes, it's not as great as it was a year ago, but still better than pre-covid. I can get from Reston to Arlington in 30 minutes door to door. It used to take an hour.

The point is that it is UNNECESSARY. Are you new to life? Do you understand that it is unnecessary and makes life much more difficult for those of us who need to go to our workplaces in hospitals, labs, services, etc.?

Metro is miserable and unsafe. No thanks.

We have had multiple employees (NOMA/NY Ave Metro) mugged or accosted in some way. An employee just had an unknown liquid thrown in her face after she refused to give someone money. This was during normal commuting hours. No, not safe.

I suspect half of employees including the C-suite don't live here. Meanwhile, there are managers living at the beach in Florida lecturing their staff on the importance of coming into the office. This seems very hypocritical to me and is going to create a lot of problems. Have other companies handled this so poorly?

I think part of the issue is pay. They pay you a premium because you live in Dc, so they expect you to be in the office.

The surrounding areas, up to 30 miles out and in some cases 50 miles out, are still expensive. Maryland and Virginia are consistently ranked as states with a HCOL.

No one is taking Metro, yet it has never been so accessible.

It has never been very accessible.
FTFY
It's a scant transit system that doesn't serve a metro area very thoroughly.

Do you ride it? I have been riding it for 30 years safely and not usually miserably (especially when I envision the drivers going over the ALB)

I think people left metro when covid concerns were high and the roads were more empty. Eventually they will find their way back. My office subsidizes metro but when people were only coming in once a week they just paid for parking out of pocket. When they have to come in more, the cost is harder to justify when metro is free,

RTO and recruitment of good workers is completely at odds. I say good luck figuring this out. As long as there are companies willing to allow remote work, they will have a huge hiring advantage.

My office is the same. We may have to go back in but they just hired someone who lives in SF. Can she continue to work from home. Will they rent office space for her somewhere so she can go in to work alone?

My work located in DC is mandating RTO at 2-3 days per week in 2025 for employees who live as far away as Howard and Fauquier counties.
