What rec league allows this?

My 15-year-old is considering going back to rec after five years of travel soccer because the commitment is too much with other high school activities.

It's common. Sometimes the child doesn't like travel, sometimes the parents don't like travel, sometimes the travel club way over promises and under delivers. Travel teams are a constant revolving door of players.

About a third of our current 6th grade boys rec team consists of former travel players who got burnt out/missed playing with their friends/the parents were over it.

Pretty uncommon, but it does happen, especially at younger ages. Older kids who quit usually leave the game entirely due to lack of interest or the desire to play another sport, be it field hockey or football in high school or to fully focus on basketball at a high level, in my experience.

It's extremely common. When kids get to MS/HS level they usually drop club for other sports or other activities but many kids still like it and want to play for fun so they go to rec.

That is not allowed — you are breaking the rules and it’s unfair to the rec league.

I've known 2. They both lasted a season in rec before quitting all together and playing a different sport.

We were very unimpressed by our travel experience and went back to rec. It was a huge waste of time and money for the year.

It’s happening to our kid right now. We moved him to travel last year and it is ruining the love of the sport for him. We are going back to rec because he’s a multi sport athlete and he’s still picking up new ones so travel makes no sense for him.

I find it not that common, mostly because at older ages, rec teams fall apart and there are fewer of them

Is this a thing? Is this common? Do kids try out travel soccer at a young age, but they or their parents decide it's too large of a commitment or too intense, and they drop back down to recd?
