true, but it’s suprisingly hard to find “tasty and fresh” at restaurants, let alone affordable. I just at at one of the hot new restaurants and it was meh - and way too pricey. the best dish truly wasn’t better than a cheaper version at a takeout.

that’s why I recommended shake shack - at least you’re guaranteed tasty! and I also recommended Hanks because they are one of the few places that consistently does good veg - they always have a good ceasar salad and a seasonal side veg, then pair it with shrimp cocktail for more “fresh,” or a more indulgent small plate for “tasty.” washed down with a crisp glass of Albariño, it’s not going to be cheap, but you aren’t going to feel fleeced either.

gosh I like Hanks! now I know where I am going for dinner ..

Nothing at the wharf is amazing. Bartaco is probably my favorite for mid priced table service. Grazie grazie or chopsmith for sandwiches and salads. I have heard Limani is nice for a fancier meal but haven't been.

My dad (born in Wisconsin in 1935) says “supper.”

Just curious - where did you grow up that you say “supper” instead of dinner?

FWIW - I would get Shake Shack and sit by the water! Or if that’s too messy before a play, Hanks Oyster Bar is one of the consistently yummy restaurants in DC. I like small plates so I’d get shrimp cocktail, their seasonal veg side (always good) and another side.

Eater DC:

Not everyone will agree with everything they say, but it's a good place to start.

Your best bet is the Wharf. There are a bunch of restaurants there, including Hanks Oyster Bar, Del Mar (high end Italian), and Mi Vida (Mexican).

Couldn’t find any threads more recent than ‘18.

Like tasty fresh food and prefer not to feel fleeced by the end of the meal.

Thanks.
