Got an email today. Glad to get them before the referral deadline. Was on the fence but it helped me decide.

When do you get the results of the COGAT?

Why would doing the COGAT in 2nd result in lower scores? Would each grade level have different norms?

Giving the test to younger students with less familiarity with taking computer tests can result in lower scores—they’ve only had one on-computer test ever, the Fall MAPs

Yes, I meant accepted. I should hope that with MAP scores in the 99th percentile your child would get into the program. Why wouldn't you refer? It's literally just a paragraph you have to write for the referral.

I agree it is like pulling teeth to get a child refered and it's not fair to base everything on computer tests given to young children. I guess they give this test to all kids at certain grade levels to screen for it.

What does this mean? My poor second grader was in tears after the MAP test. He got progressively harder math problems since he got them right and could not understand the equations and was causing himself a lot of anxiety. We are a low tech family and he doesn't really work on a laptop ever except at school. I absolutely hate the AAS referral process for ACPS. My older son, it seemed like pulling teeth to get him referred even though he had top scores. Luckily, his teachers referred him. My middle daughter, she missed because of her grades!

I can't keep up with the ever changing BS of the TAG / AAC program at ACPS. Do they still do a universal screening the the COGAT in 2nd grade at Alexandria City public schools? As in for this school year? And what part of the year do they give it?
