Translation, "my DD had good playing time, even though the team was not as good as it had been we are happy because it works for our DD"


OP here. Yeah, some of that for sure. DD continued to develop and grow overall - that's kinda what this is all about right? The team success is certainly a nice benefit.

There were growing pains on the team. Switched up formation from the first two years and there were a lot more growing pains with that than I think the girls anticipated - took a while to learn and adjust, which in the long run, was as good thing. Settled in by the end of the year and qualified for national playoffs.

This year, because of the last years growing pains, they are able to switch back and forth which they would not be able to do if it wasn't for last years challenges.

I posted above that DS was happy at their club, loved his coaches, team and training. His club is one of the ones vilified here regularly.

New coach at U15. We never had a problem, but other parents were pretty vocal to others about their displeasure with the coach. Really think it had more to do with their DD's playing time than anything else. Was told "well of course you think things are fine, your DD plays the whole game." There was a lot of parental turmoil which overflowed to the girls. While they had a good season, they didn't see the same success as the two previous years. But, we felt our DD continued to develop.

U16, new coach. Going well so far and haven't heard the same type of angst from other parents. Still room to grow this season.

Club overall is pretty small so there is a chance to develop some relationships with folks on the non-coaching side of things.

Midwest. I found your forum watching the BY vs SY debate thread and checked out some other less insane threads

The main factors that drew me in, if part of that sounds good to you, were that the club's teams and reputation were on the rise, and it wasn't located near a very wealthy area. So I figured other parents were not tolerant of a money-grab, and their kids were expected to be focused if the parents were spending on club.

This year coach is really good, club has always been well run. Frustrations as always with scheduling etc. but no major complaints.

Prior coach was a bit inexperienced with younger kids and I think could have been better.

So yes, happy with both this year.

My kid's coach is fantastic. Most other coaches at the same club would give me some pause before writing the check. Club overall is very well run, plays in the best leagues, 16-17 player rosters only (11v11), seriously pushes development, and does not feel like a money-grab. Kids on B/C teams are treated like they are serious players who may move up each year. Flip side is that A/B players are told they could move down, and are regularly moved down if they underperform. A-C have regular scrimmages against each other for tracking, but otherwise mostly have their own practices unless a coach is missing. Downside is that I have to drive pretty far for this club.

There are pockets, but things are spread so wide and thin that its difficult to have a club doing EVERYTHING right on top of trying to be competitive in a cut throat business.
