Is bucknell better than Colgate here?

PP's kid wants Greek life, which Middlebury doesn't have. The schools above it do.

Bucknell and Colgate could probably be 1a and 1b. Both have sporty, social student bodies, abundant Greek life, and strong pipelines to MC and The Street.

My dd is a senior in the business school and has loved her time there. She already has a job, following a great intern experience this summer at the firm. It is absolutely work hard/play hard, as others have mentioned. Her roommate is an engineering major and between the 2 of them, there is a LOT of studying happening. Kids are also super involved with clubs and community service. These are definitely your class president kind of kids. While greek life is the primary party scene, my dd isn't a big partier/tends to be more quiet and had no problem balancing different types of fun. Easier once they turn 21 and can go to bars instead of a gross frat house She also studied abroad, has great relationships with her professors. While it's not a huge rah rah school, there are a lot of fun traditions too. Alumni are super super involved, which speaks volumes. The network is insane and makes a huge difference with career/internships (speaking from business school experience).

I don't have a kid there but I did go to the open house the other month and I think the vibe will be very different for the business school versus the engineering school.

NP: Thank you for this. It is top 3 for my humanities focused, non-partying dc and this is the part of the reputation that gives us parents pause. Instinctively, we expected this to be the case, but so much chatter about fraternity life is hard to block out (we both went to schools with no Greek life).

The current sophomore I know who’s there is a work-hard but not necessarily play-hard kind of kid. Sweet, nerdy, definitely not joining a frat… but has lots of friends from classes and extracurricular activities. He’s loving it and find a great fit.

Top-notch for engineering and business. The campus is gorgeous. The frat scene is pretty strong.

We live in a good suburban school district (non-DMV) and the kids I know who go there are not top of the class, but right below. Very well-rounded.
