What experience factors does your child have?

None, actually, but we're from a less affluent school, and DC has a perfect GPA in the highest math track.
If you're in the top 1.5% you'll get in

I don't think that's truthful. Do you have any evidence to support these claims?

With the current system, yes.
A lot depends on who reads your essay.

Yes.

If you have any "experience factors" then definitely.

GPA is inflated and doesnt matter. Students with inflated 4.0 GPA are struggling in the lowest math class as soon as they enter TJ. Since there is no math/english/science evaluation conducted as part of admission, you and your student need to make your own assessment as to how likely they are to succeed at TJ, and at least be in the top half.

Applying is quick and easy. Why not give it a try and see what happens? Unless they've changed the process, the essays are given a lot more weight than the GPA.

The average GPA for Long Fellow, RCMS, Cooper, Kilmer etc top feeders is likely going to be over 3.95 this year. Our Child has a GPA of 3.88 at a top feeder school. Is it really worth it to apply to TJ below 3.90 GPA while knowing that e.g. almost 50 to 70 kids have a perfect GPA at your base school? How much can Math/SPS really weigh at the top feeders?
