So predictable.

Move out to Loundon if you want to complain about SEL.

My high schooler says it is a giant waste of time and sometimes delivered over the announcement system. Please tell me how that is effective or even moderately helpful.

The kids that really need it aren’t benefiting by having some random teacher read from whatever nonsense they are given.

And in ES it raised issues that caused more harm than good. The counselor was awful and tried to make kid hug another kid as part of it. Wtf?! No thanks.

The point of homeroom is to build community and for kids to have consistent time with a trusted adult. For those who need that. It’s invaluable.

APS teacher here. I’ve had parents tell me they’ve opted out of things, but their name didn’t appear on our opt-out list. So I suggest that whenever you opt out of something in ParentVue (or wherever), take a screenshot and send it to the teacher as an FYI.

They didn't go over the schedule with you and talk about how they do SEL on Tues/Thurs? It was in the presentation slides that they all used that were the same.

Why would you opt out if you didn’t have confirmation on an alternative activity? You’d rather your kid just sit in an empty room alone?

Your kid will have to go sit in the office twice a week during SEL. And look like his parent is a freaking lunatic.

You really don't want your kid learning about gratitude and study skills?

There’s only two days of week where they required to go to patriot period. The other days are used to go to get help from other teachers or go to clubs that occur during that time. The SEL lessons are not always on those two days, but it is when they are done. They can get a pass to go to the library or somewhere else. Seems like a big hassle just for your kid not to learn SEL. Especially if they’re just going to be on their phone in the library.

In the back to school packet on Parentvue we opted our freshman out of SEL. We’ve done this every year yet they still take that survey and have had to sit through whatever they did in MS

If they have been opted out of SEL, can they do something else during that time in Patriot Period? Kid tells me so far teacher hasn’t mentioned it. What is the point of an opt out if it means nothing?
