I went to open houses, and they all shared the same information regarding schedule and curriculum. The facilities are all great, and the teachers are nice. We only had a few schools on our list, almost all with a waitlist of 300+ kids—and we didn’t get into any of them. Stevens was our safety school, and we ended up with Stevens.

Nothing in this about how much the kids go outside.

15 minutes once a day.

I’d still ask if you care about these things. There is a minimum set by DCPS but some schools might do an extra short recess or have more flexibility for non-nappers. All schools will have a teacher and an aid but some schools might have enough ELL students to have an ELL teacher for part of the day (3 adults).

I joined all of the Hill ones when we were looking. Very helpful in terms of getting to know the schools. I think the Chisholm & Ludlow ones are especially good:

@jowilsoncardinals / @jowpta

@minerelementaryschool / @miner.pto

Go to DC EdFest in December, talk to schools you're interested in and get on their mailing lists for open houses.

When will these begin for the 25-26 school year?
