I love how DCUM always comes back with the most difficult school to get into. They accept 12-20 students a year into MT.

There is a Musical Theatre group on FB that might be useful
There are a lot of dancers who also look at MT programs, as well.
My daughter is a dance major at Dean College in MA, and they also have a pretty well-known MT department.
I know of a few who went MT rather than dance -
UNC-Greensboro
SEMO
AMDA (started at Hussian as commercial dance)
One family did auditions at several places, and daughter wound up overseas. Mom recommended Emory & Henry, but she wound up at Institute of the Arts Barcelona

Muhlenberg, Shenandoah, Elon, Ithaca, Emerson, Boston Conservatory, Syracuse, Penn State, Michigan. So many possibilities! A lot will depend on if your student wants to go the BFA route.
Oberlin is adding a new Musical Theater degree, which is exciting!

+1. CMU was very impressive when we toured. It was humorous when the admissions rep in the info session said “we take the arts seriously. They are not a back door to STEM majors. Very few transfers are approved”.

One of the stars of my DC’s HS’s theater program who graduated last year came back to visit last week and said she is thinking of majoring in theater now. She’s at W&M.
The absolute break-out star who graduated last year is currently attending Tisch, but you said you wanted outside of NYC.

Are you looking for BFA conservatory style programs, or something less intense? You may want to join the FB group BFA Acting Dreams—you’ll get ton of on point info. It’s a whole different world, especially if going the audition route.

DC isn't at the point of making a list yet, but what places are people excited about right now? (Bonus points for naming anything outside of NYC.)
