Nothing bad happens if you wash them properly like any other vegetable. They are grown in manure for christs sake.

They rot faster than whole mushrooms. They are at sliced to the thickness that any particular recipe needs.
Are these salvaged damaged Mushrooms?
I understand that people who can't cut appreciate pre-sliced things, but that's under 10% of the consumer base not half.
