Staples takes both alkaline and rechargeable batteries now.

OP here. Mom's does I thought. Mo County does as well.

There are boxes in some rec centers to recycle sneakers. Just sneakers though-- it's mostly the rubber being reused.

I know there are businesses who buy goods from thrift stores, Goodwill, etc., then repackage and sell to other countries in bulk. Perhaps Mom's no longer has that, or never did and now shoes are no longer acceptable to USA customers.

If you cannot sell a pair of shoes, then nobody wants them. Don't foist off your garbage on charities, that costs them money and hurts them.

Ugh. Took a box on Saturday only to discover this. It's what I did with shoes that I didn't think could sell at a thrift store. It's time-consuming to be environmental..
