Look at Santander and Andrin, as well as Llanes, in Asturias. Much better than the Canary Islands.

We stayed at the Parador in Cangas de Onis. Close to the Picos De Europa which was so beautiful and not far from beaches. It’s a bit staid but really beautiful.

Thank you! It slipped my mind about Basque. I was just thinking northern Spain in July on the Atlantic might be cooler than the Mediterranean. Maybe I'll check out the Canary Islands. I haven't been there in a while.

I don’t - just be sure to research the predominance of the local language before you book.

Anyone have a suggestion of a luxury hotel/apartment in Northern Spain where we can spend a week in July. It can be in the mountains or beach. I’m looking in a place we can practice spanish and do an active holiday- surfing, hiking, swimming and a bit of site seeing. We have 3 adults and 2 children, so adjoining rooms, a suite, or an apartment would be preferable to 2 hotel rooms. I’ve been a bit depressed by my preliminary internet searches. Also, I don’t want to spend more than $1000/night. Not sure I can find anything and I’m not even picky about location.
